Share Jesus Without Fear
By Kyle Blackwell
The most common excuse Christians give for not sharing the Gospel is lack of knowledge, especially when it comes to the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Atheists and Muslims, because they always seem to know more about the Bible. Another reason church goers fail to share Jesus is the fear of rejection. The truth is, people make evangelism a lot more complicated than it really is. Telling people about Jesus is a gift, and a joy.
I have used this example in the past of when I first started dating Ana. I could not wait to tell people about her, I still tell everyone about her. I am a very lucky man. She is the most beautiful, gorgeous woman God ever created. But that beauty is not only skin deep. She is loving and kind. I love her more than anything, or anyone on this planet. You see how easy that was? You did not ask me to tell about my love for Ana, I just told you. Sharing the goodness of our God should be no different from when you were excited to tell your friends about your girlfriend or boyfriend when you first met.
I was so excited to tell everyone at work about my Lord and Savior the day after Jesus called me to the Kingdom of God. There were about 40 people who heard the Good News of Salvation and some of them heard it more than once on September 20, 2019. I would be willing to bet most of them did not care to hear what I had to say. But hey, I had all this knowledge of the love God had for my soul, and His unfailing desire to reach me, that I had to tell others the wonder working power, and change that He had on my life. When Jesus impacts your life, it is your duty to impact the lives of everyone around you. Do not place a veil over your lamp, hiding the light shining within.
So, how do I tell about Jesus? For starters, we must rely in Holy Spirit to guide us. I cannot tell you how many times I had no clue what to say, but Holy Spirit spoke through me. He has a way to reach people’s hearts in a where I could never dream. This guy came into the bathroom while I was busy and asked how the Bible is real if dinosaurs are not mentioned. I told him that the Bible never mentions Alpacas, but I am looking to buy some. I ended up sharing my testimony with him while he opened up to me, telling all his life struggles.
The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. -1 Corinthians 2:14
This is the verse that changed the way I evangelize, and the way I view non-Christians in general. People outside the faith are unable to understand the things of God, and His supernatural attributes, because they do not possess Holy Spirit. Furthermore, a man is only able to understand the Gospel fully when he has been called by Jesus to His Kingdom, and later filled with Holy Spirit. Knowing this, a lot of pressure has been taken off my plate. I now say to God my part is complete when telling people of His majesty, that it is now on Him to turn their eyes toward Jesus. Yes, that is the type of relationship I have with my Heavenly Father. Essentially, nobody is able to understand the Gospel without intervention of Holy Spirit. Therefore, it is a supernatural phenomenon, a miracle, every time someone turns to Jesus.
Now that we realize God uses us only as a vessel, and that one’s soul can only be won to Christ through the miracle working power of Holy Spirit, let’s get started with the basics of witnessing. The most important rule is to never get in an argument with someone, or overload someone with scripture, making it seem as we’re superior to them. If we ruin the relationship, any good news we have is put on the back-burner. This includes the Jehovah’s Witnesses. I have told God that I will never approach a JW unless Holy Spirit tells me to speak to them, because it would only end in an argument. It sounds tough, but Jesus said to not cast your pearls to pigs (Matthew 7:6). The pigs are ones who know the Word, but they refuse to acknowledge the Truth. And we all know about Truth, it will set you free.
That being said, I do want to equip you to combat the JWs if you are approached by them. They believe Jesus and God are not one. Take a look at the following verses God brought to my attention a while ago.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. -John 14:26
But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me. -John 15:26
Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. -John 16:7
In chapter 14, Jesus states the Father will send Holy Spirit in Jesus’ name. In chapter 15, Jesus said He will send the Helper, or Holy Spirit, from the Father. However, chapter 16 mentions that Jesus, himself, will send the Helper, or Holy Spirit. The only explanation for both God and Jesus being able to send the Spirit of God is if both God and Jesus are the same being. And even though the JWs believe Holy Spirit is not a person, but God’s “actives force”, the argument still stands. How can both Jesus and God send God’s “active force” if Jesus is not God? By the way, I have checked the New World Translation, which is their version of the Bible, and the verses are translated the same. So, it is not the same as arguing John 1:1 where their translation says Jesus was “a” God, and ours says Jesus was God. (Side note: Do not fight with John 1:1 unless you understand and read Koine Greek, just don’t)
Next, it is important that we are able to tell people our testimony. I cannot tell you how many grown men I have seen cry while giving them my personal testimony. We live in a society that thrives on reality TV. We love to hear other’s downfalls while also being able to relate with them. And God will place you in divine appointments to plant seeds with someone who has a similar testimony to yours.
The very first morning I prayed for God to use me as His vessel, He sent me someone from work whose wife decided to leave him. A few months later, there was another whose wife also chose to leave them. Yeah, both of those were extremely hard, but God equipped me to disciple each of them for about six months. I met another with a similar situation to mine on a plane coming from Ohio, and another guy I met through buying a washer and dryer on Facebook Marketplace. Know your personal testimony. Recite it over and over. And remember, every testimony is a miracle, no matter if you were saved at 5, and God kept you from experiencing a nasty world of personal sins, or you were saved at the age of 60 while you were hitman in the mob.
It is also important to know why you believe in the Bible. By Bible, I mean both Old and New Testament. My motto for the Bible is you cannot have the New Testament if it were not for the Old. I have written about a lot of the Old Testament prophecies of Jesus in Old Testament Gospel and Faith to Absolute. (Please click the links to see the explanations)
I was confronted by a Muslim while purchasing a vehicle and he was so excited to tell me about his faith. My dad was with me and I could not really talk much about my faith since the guy spoke non-stop about his. Of course, he was talking about how we do not have the original copies of the Gospels; therefore, the New Testament is false (Of course the originals are gone because they were written lamb skin and papyrus, but we have more copies than any other antiquity in history). I knew that I would see him the next day to pick up the vehicle since there was an issue with the A/C. So, I let him talk his heart out. The next day came and God used his wife as a distraction. While she was telling my dad about muhammad, I was able to tell him why I believed in the Bible. Since Muslims believe in the Psalms I went to Psalms 22. Please read Faith to Absolute to see how Psalm 22 took my belief in the Bible from faith to an absolute knowing.
You will also get the ones who ask the age old question: If God is love, why does He allow bad things to happen to good people? What you need to realize is the one who may be asking this question probably had a loved one that got caught up in a bad situation. Be sensitive and aware of this. Say to that person: “This seems like a very personal question, and touchy subject for you, may I ask why you’re asking this question”? This may be the key to that person’s heart. Of course, however, there are others who may have heard someone else ask the question. Bottom line, I do not wish to serve a God whom I fully understand. He sent His Son to die on a cross for my sins. How can I understand this kind of sacrifice? Also, without a freedom of choice, there is no love, and God would only be a puppet master. Unfortunately, freedom of choice is gifted to both good and bad people.
Another key is to always have a Bible on hand to give away. There is a used book store near my house that I always visit to buy affordable Bibles. I do not know how many I’ve given away but it is a joy to gift someone a Bible they can call their own. I had the privilege of giving a homeless man in Lawrenceville a Bible and he sends me pictures sometimes of what he is reading. It is a seed that God continues to water each and every day.
One of the most popular responses I get while sharing Jesus is that they try to be a good person, and hope that is good enough. This guy came up to me while fishing and this was the response he offered me. I told him about Isaiah 64:6 that says all our good deeds are nothing but filthy rags to God. He left soon after, but not before I got to share with him my testimony, and how I thought I was a pretty good person.
Lastly, be sure to memorize Bible verses to use while witnessing. Showing someone in a Bible or your phone is great, but sometimes you do not have enough time to flip the scriptures. Here are my favorites below:
And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him. Colossians 2:13-15
(This is my go-to when someone is battling addiction, depression or anxiety because it speaks of how Jesus not only died for our sins, but He also cancelled the authority that the demonic realm has on us.)
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. -Romans 3:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. -Romans 6:23
All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags. -Isaiah 64:6
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. -John 3:16
The main point I want you to take away from this entire article is this: We are unable to save a single soul; God uses us as His chosen vessels to deliver the Good News of the Gospel. If I, Kyle Blackwell, lead someone to Christ then I’m leading them straight to hell. It is only through the miraculous power of Holy Spirit that one may be truly saved by the Blood of Jesus Christ.
-My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge - Hosea 4:6
