Why I worship an invisible God

Ana Blackwell

He is my Lord, my savior, best friend, and the only one worthy of worship. Though He is invisible, he leaves evidence of his presence all around. He replaces sorrow with joy. Brings peace when anxiety and fear creep in. He answers impossible prayer requests. Wherever Jesus goes, life and miracles follow.

In Colossians 1:15 Jesus is said to be “the visible image of the invisible God”. Many take that verse and relate it to His years of ministry on the Earth. The reality is that miracles are still performed in Jesus’ name today, therefore the evidence of a good God is found wherever a person humbles themselves and cries out to their Creator. There are loads of stories I like to share that reveal God’s handiwork in my life. Friends and family also have accounts of when Jesus came through at just the right time.

Speaking of miracles, the Bible itself is incredible due to the preservation, integrity, and consistency of the content it holds. It was written over the span of 1500 years by around 40 authors, yet the message flows as if there was only one author. The truth is that there really was just one author at work behind every book of the Bible. His name is Holy Spirit. So I hope every time someone picks up the Bible, they realize they are holding a supernatural book whose author is the divine God.

With that said, the heavenly Father is personal and rewards those who seek Him. The greatest reward is to experience personal encounters with Him. It is in these experiences that doubt is shattered and unbelief is silenced. His power shows up whenever people believe the words written in the Bible. Sometimes He answers prayers right away. Other times He has His own agenda, which of course results in even greater miracles. One story from scripture that uncovers this is in the one about a friend of Jesus.

Lazarus and his family were people who often spent time with Jesus. Yet when Lazarus became extremely ill and his sisters called for the Teacher, He did not show up right away. In fact, Jesus showed up four days later fully aware Lazarus had been in the grave for several days. Mary and Martha, the sisters of Lazarus, thought He was too late. The Master wasn’t late though, He simply had another plan. His purpose was to glorify the Father. When Jesus went to the grave sight, He asked for the stone at the entrance to be removed. Then he called Lazarus by name and out came the man who was once rotting in his tomb. The crowd was absolutely dismayed. John 11:45 says that “many of the people who were with Mary believed in Jesus when they saw this happen”.

These are a few of the reasons why I worship God who is unseen and yet tangible. His words are true. The Bible unveils His personality and when we take that step of faith to call upon Him, He reveals His nature in a personal way. Jesus is trustworthy and He is alive today. The King will always show up where He is honored, therefore I worship Him with all I am.

If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit -Galatians 5:25
